A native New Yorker who has called Cincinnati home for over 36 years, Dr. Munowitz completed her dental studies at New York University Dental School in 1981 and a family practice residency at the Lakeside VA hospital in Chicago. She became board certified in Integrative Biological Dental Medicine and Naturopathic Medicine through the American College of Integrative Medicine and Dentistry in July 2015. Dr. Munowitz is actively involved in community service through the Mason-Deerfield Rotary Club and enjoys good food, friendships, and golf.

As the first person to greet you, Thelma is a people person who enjoys meeting new patients and welcoming returning ones. She has two wonderful stepdaughters and enjoys spending time at local parks and organic gardening.

A University of Cincinnati graduate from the Class of 2013, Chelsea has been with Dr. Munowitz for over five years. She enjoys learning the holistic approach to patient care and loves spending her free time with family, including her three nieces and two nephews.

With over 25 years in dentistry, Lori has experience as an assistant, expanded function dental assistant, and hygienist. She joined Dr. Munowitz in January 2021 and loves working in holistic dentistry. Outside of work, Lori enjoys spending time with family and friends and has a passion for gardening.

A dental assistant since the age of 16, Nancie enjoys working with Dr. Munowitz and values the wonderful team at Smiles Ohio. She is a Christian woman, wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoys her pets, hiking, biking, kayaking, rollerblading, and camping along the Little Miami River.

Dental Ozone

Ozone completely destroys bacteria, mold, yeast and viruses

Ozone allows us to treat many dental conditions in a very conservative manner.

Gum Disease / Infections: Because gum disease is an infection and ozone can eliminate infection, irrigating periodontal pockets with ozone water and ozone gas is highly beneficial. Used in this manner, ozone not only helps stop the progression of the disease but also helps prevent tooth decay on exposed root surfaces. When needed, a custom tray that fits snugly over the teeth and gums can be fabricated which then flows ozone gas over the teeth and gums to help maintain periodontal health and prevent decay.

Restorative: Ozonated water is used in every procedure in our office. Since ozone kills bacteria, virus, fungi and parasites, we use ozone gas under all of our restorative dental procedures for the purpose of disinfecting the tooth, hence less post operative sensitivity!

Digital X-Rays

Super techniques and equipment

Less Radiation – The equipment used in digital radiography exposes dental patients to much less radiation. In fact, digital X-rays use up to 90 percent less radiation than film X-rays. In addition we use Tru-Align Laser-Aligning Collimator System which greatly reduces scatter radiation especially to the brain. The x-ray beam is a column aimed just at the tooth. Lead Aprons with thyroid coverage are also used for your protection. Environmentally Friendly – Digital dental X-rays are better for the environment! With digital radiography, no chemicals are used to develop film. There’s also no wasted space of a darkroom and no need to store film, which can pile up in a dentist’s files.

The no-braces approach to straightening your teeth and jaws.

Treatment uses myofunctional orthodontic techniques to address the poor oral habits known as myofunctional habits that are the real, underlying causes of crooked teeth, and uses light intermittent forces to align the teeth. Myofunctional orthodontic techniques have been practiced by Orthodontists and Dentists around the world for over 50 years. This is done through the use of a series of removable dental appliances that are worn for just 1-2 hours each day and overnight while sleeping. Daily use of the Myobrace combined with regular activities (to improve breathing, muscle function, and tongue posture) results in straighter teeth and improved function, leading to optimal facial development and a healthier smile. If we give the body the tools it needs it can heal itself.
